Selected to receive the prestigious "BoldBrush Award" by juror Joseph Todorovitch in FASO's July BoldBrush Painting Competition.

This painting is a much larger interpretation of a subject painted en plein air last summer.  The subject is two dories that sit in the Creek section of Nantucket Harbor.  At the time that it was painted, the harbor behind the dories was filled with boats.  Focusing upon the boats, the painting took on an atmosphere of its own, leading me to the decision to omit the boats in the harbor and the buildings on the opposite shore. I approached this painting combining realism with a bit of abstraction, using a lot of paint to create texture upon the sand and water in contrast to the controlled detail of the boats.
